Sounds like you're doing (done!) the same as me - with the ultimate aim of letting the kids watch their DVDs "on demand" (and they do demand ;)
My Gigabit network is all backed by Cat5e cabling. What am I missing out on by not having Cat6?
Most of the cable in the diagram above is either buried underground or plastered in to the walls and there's no way I can change it...
