I haven't used that option with 8.0 or previous releases and have got the stack trace line numbers without it.
To my understanding the option adds a possibility to use a remote debugger with java agents and adds also a lot more debug information than just the stack trace line numbers. Before it has not been required to see the line numbers in exceptions. Also I would want to see the stack trace line numbers in production environment if something crashes. But for that to happen I would not want to include the other debug information (and possible slowdown) what that option adds (as far as I know).
