    yes, River uses Flex (or AIR or some kind of Flash). But you can also use a REST API.

    Regarding Seam: It makes use of Hibernate for database access and you can also generate the database from your code. I think nowadays you can do all this stuff also using Microsoft or other technologies but I always like the idea of open standards.

    The SEAM application can run on many different application servers using different databases (Hibernate supports all known databases) all with the same code (ok, you have to tweak some config files). While this is also possible using M$ technology you can develop all this SEAM stuff using only free software.

    But ASP.NET is also very nice indeed. It is always good to have a choice.
