The JFS (which XPages is built on) does not have a large fan base. Search the internet and I my guess is you won't find many developers screaming of joy.
I don't think it is meant for standard websites, more for applications internally.
But most likely the main reason for not using XPages or Domino in general on a website would be license issues.
I did some searching last year to find a good Java based framework to build websites on.
My conclusion is: if you want a fast , easy to use, powerful framework with active developers and users backing it ->
Go for the Play Framework
