Making major changes to a database from one version of an application to another is much more intensive than it may have seemed in Domino, but the end results are far more predictable. No more do I have to wonder 'will the value of this field be text that is actually a datetime value', because I will have had to specifically convert those columns in SQL.
The whole process feels more scientific. More like an engineering discipline than an art form. The predictability of changes that you've run through countless unit tests is worth the extra effort of writing those tests up front.
