  1. Those are good points Jake and I don't have good answers for the most part. But the difference between design and data is a design decision. Even Notes keeps the design in rich text format. They just keep the two separated based on roles, roles that are hard coded into Notes, but roles none-the-less.

Frankly I don't think anybody should have to write CSS or HTML or XML. It should be generated automatically from some higher level in the design process ... and I don't me LESS ... that's still too low a level. CSS and LESS are to web sites what assembly language is to computer programs.

The think I like about Notes Designer before Xpages is the WYSIWYG way it works. It couldn't do everything possible and you couldn't design absolutely any application with it, but if you did things the "Notes" way then for use in the Notes client, many powerful apps could be created by those that needed them. Kind of like what a spreadsheet program is to an accountant.

So I guess I've been looking for the Holy Grail of web building applications. Notes/Domino is as close as I've found. Still I daydream of a system which takes the best ideas from Notes/Domino and puts them together with newer ideas to make the next generation.

A nerd can dream can't he?

    Peace,

    Rob:-]
