Jake, Have you looked at Buzzword? {Link} Basically it is an editor written in Adobe Flash. They were recently bought by Adobe. Compared to Flash, the Javascript approach seems quite crude. Now it would be really nice if IBM implemented a flash version of the rich text field - it would solve lots of problems.
