@Nick Hopkins: Sounds like a hack to me and I thought xpages got rid of hacks.
My main problem with xpages right now and admittedly I haven't done the research is the requirement to use the DOJO javascript framework. I hat the HTML editor and prefer other, smaller javascript frameworks.
What about mobile support. If I want my site to be accessible on a phone. Not an iPhone are many of the PDAs, just a phone. If a programmer uses Web Standards and CSS, most of my pages work on a phone, though forms often have to made custom for the phone. Does xpages support the phone?
