The best way for non Java programmers to learn is to go through the JSP/Java tutorials on java.sun.com Once through with that its all in applying what you have learnt. Easiest way is to start writing Java Agents and Servlets that access domino classes.
Believe me JSP/J2EE is not that tuff an egg. Integrate your domino with Tomcat and you can have a head start.
