with JBoss Seam it is nearly as easy as with ASP.NET:
You download and unzip the a Java AS (any one like Glassfish, JBoss Server, even Apache Tomcat will do for many things). After that you deploy automatically from your IDE to any server you like. After deploying to a dev server you simply deploy it to prod server and you are done.
For smaller projects I would go for .Net and for large ones I would definitely choose some Java Enterprise design.
