  1. Uh, that's not the point of CSS. I consider tables (other than when used to contain actual tables of data) a hallmark of failure. Not necessarily of the developer but of the system as a whole. Semantic markup and CSS isn't about snobbery (well, not usually, at least), it's about meaning and (most importantly) accessibility. Styled tables are still tables, and still lie about what they contain. That makes no difference to people who can see your page and don't know about the tables -- but it makes a heck of a lot of difference to people who can't see your page and therefore have to rely on the markup to tell them what's there.
