Many active bloggers work for an IBM Business Partner (or are an IBM Business Partner) and XPages is the only thing moving forward and being pushed by IBM. XPages is a reality for them. Customers have many more options to choose from, XPages being just one technology out of many.
Personally my development skills are not good enough to use a platform that does not offer a debugger (and supports my developer preference for the Mac platform).
