Don't missunderstand me, what I only wanted to say is that you are a web developer using Domino, not a Domino developer (in the sens of "IBM / Lotus" developer that, nowadays, should use websphere portal, connections, quickr, integrate all this smartly, add some domino apps to that, do some eclipse plugin for notes clients etc etc...)
And yes, Domino "classic" as an app dev platform is easily approachable (does not mean easy in it's globality, but easy to start and have something done). On the other end, JEE is the opposite : learning curve is hard, you spend a lot of time before having somehting working, you always deal with low level stuff ...that's why full stack frameworks like Grails, PLay! come in to simplify lower the requirements
