I'm not sure there's a valid comparison to JavaScript.
Dim is setting aside memory
var is akin to private rather than Dim.
But, yeah, probably through a lot of hard knocks, I realized after a minute that you didn't explicitly initialize the variable for each iteration of the loop. That's an old gotcha... and I agree, should have been updated. I've tried to get away from LotusScript but still have to maintain hundreds of thousands of lines of it somewhat regularly, so while Java and JavaScript get more attention from me on a daily basis, LotusScript is never far off.
