  1. It has it's ups and downs. Good things for you living where you do - the option (most likely) to take the train where there is also wireless access. Catch up on reading, blog, etc. during that time strikes me as a great way to prepare for and wind down from the day. Too bad no option like that for me here. :-) But the life of a daily commuter means usually 10 hours away from the one's you love (avg?). I'm so fortunate to have a 4 mile commute at the moment. Working from the basement office is impossible with the kids noisily carrying on during the day, but OK on occasion. You have that nice cozy office where you can get some distance from the chaos of the home to do your deep thinking which is a great asset. But I agree with Axel - working with a team is a great and rewarding experience and I think really builds one's sense of professionalism. My mind is so compartmentalized between work and home now that working from home all the time - I wouldn't want that. I wouldn't be the best Dad/Husband/Worker I could as I'd be trying to wear all three hats at once. Being just down the road a ways makes changing hats so much easier.

Definitely, a local job out of the home would be better than bad if not quite as good as excellent.
