I don't doubt you're right Ferdy. As a wanna-be purist I too would prefer REST, but, like you say, you can't argue with how easy it is to create and consume the above Web Services.
Another article in the series (if it ever gets that far) will likely cover using complex custom return types. Then it gets really impressive.
