You can change the behaviour of Enter <P> and Shift+Enter <BR> to reverse them. I would recommend looking at the HTMLArea forums on how to do that.

I have done something similar to what you are doing here. My requirement was to let the users attach PDFs and create link to these attached PDFs from the HTML Area editor. Worked pretty well.
