My only thought is ditch Netgear ;-) I'm no networking expert.
Funnily enough we too had a DG834G that gave up the ghost.
Give Draytek a look! The admin finterface is an overwhelming sea of settings. You can tell it's serious kit and doing what you want to do would, I'd imagine, be a doddle (sound like it ought to be).
I gave up on Netgear after the WNR3500L I bought recently refused to keep a connection with the modem I attached to it.
Draytek all the way from now. I even tested their support by emailing them a question about wifi antenna angles and a nice-sounding chap who knew his stuff answered within 24 hours.
