That second link you posted is exactly what I was hoping to find or write if absent. The Dojo Compressor looks great. Dean Edwards offers one as well though I've had a problem or two calling functions from external .js files that are compressed with it. Given the variability of support for gzip, script compression does seem the best answer for delivery size. The article also gets inte the much needed details on caching. GO READ!
