Site Mod: Let's Get Social

Top right on every page of this site* there's now the "Let's Get Social" section with a handful of links to sites that I'm a user of.

Some of the links were there before and some are new. They all have a new look though. Thanks to brilliantly simply icomoon.io web app, which lets you pick the icons you want, bundle them together and download as a font Base64 encoded in a CSS file. Use of the font is then dead simple.

Brilliant. Font-based icons are the way forward!

* this assumes your screen is wide enough to let the responsive design introduce the 3rd column. If not they'll be further down the second column (or down at the bottom of the 1st if you're using a mobile device).

Comments

  1. Icons are pretty slick. I happened to click on your linkedin icon and got an error - on checking it looks like you have www.linkedin instead of uk.linkedin.

Great work on the responsive design, really effective. :)

    Cheers,

    Jon.

Jake - the link to icomoon.io doesn't seem to work.

  2. Here's a screenshot of what I see in my Chrome browser:

I see the header that says "Lets get social" but I don't see any links under it.

Here's a screenshot of what I see in my IE9 browser:

    Now I see the icons.

Here's a screenshot of what I see in my FireFox 15.0.1 browser:

    Looks good here too.

Hmmm. Odd. What version of Chrome is that? Have you tried hitting F5 a few times?

    1. Looks fine in Chrome for me. Funny how the same trick we used to make our C-64 apps look better 27 years ago applies here as well. Font editing was quite the rage for modding your MS Basic apps without knowing how to really create loads of sprites and position them.
