The Best Thing Lotus Ever Made
Sorry, couldn't resist the pun.
Here's me stood next to my favourite car - the Lotus Esprit, as driven by my favourite of the Bonds - Roger Moore.
The photo was taken yesterday at Waddington Air Show where I took Felix for a boys day out. He wasn't nearly as impressed by the USAF's Thunderbirds or the Vulcan as I was. In fact he seemed completely unimpressed by everything but the hook-a-duck stand at the fair. Kids!
The day out came at the end of our family holiday and my annual week off, which we spent in Whitby (again). We had great weather and a brilliant time.
Today I'm trying to get back on top of things.
Actually I find the most interesting thing in this story also: what makes the kids find hook-a-duck so interesting.
Is the fact that they can do something with their skills and win prises?

Hmm, good question. Not sure why Felix was so drawn to it over a stall where he could simply buy a toy. He's unaware of the fact it's a "prize every time" setup and that you can't lose. So, yeah, maybe it's the buzz of him thinking he really "won" it.

Lotus also made the Excel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Excel
Good thing they didn't name one of their cars "Bob", or "Clippy". "It looks like you're driving this car. Would like help?".

Bah, they made the Lotus Exige 2:

Yeah. Maybe the Esprit wasn't their best car, but it's my favourite. I like the angularity and simplicity of its design.

That must have been a really good show.

Yep. USAF. I think the Red Arrows were there too, but I missed that. Whether Thunderbirds are better than Red Arrows I don't know, but, yeah it was a good show from your guys. All very American.
For me it's all about the noise. The louder the better. If my chest doesn't feel like it's about to implode then it's not loud enough. The F16s were loud, but the Vulcan was louder.

Must be a guy thing with noise... same here. Wife and kids don't get it "too loud!" they plead.
For a recent holiday, an A-10 Warthog did a loop over our office park, I think turning around from a parade run to head back to the local AFB. Holy crap. Maybe 350 or 400 ft off the deck, turning on a dime as I looked out the window in front of me. It had us all pretty jazzed for the rest of the day.

Reminds me of the funny thing that happened at Minnie's birthday in our garden last month. Half way through - just before the cake came out - a Lancaster (or some WW2-type bomber of a similar ilk) flew directly over our garden at about 500ft. All the other dads looked at me in that "colour me impressed" kind of way and some made jokes about me going a bit OTT for a 3rd birthday.
You can't make it up sometimes.
