SharePoint Manager Application
If, like me, you find yourself in at the deep end trying to get your head round SharePoint development then along with the other things I talked about you might want a copy of SharePoint Manager 2007/2010.
It's the scanEz of the SharePoint world and it's helping me no end in working out how things are all tied together.

SharePoint provides the ability to provide out-of-the-box provisioning within the product. However, the all or nothing approach means that unless tightly controlled by corporate policies your SharePoint environment can rapidly become unmanageable.
