Farewell 2006

For the first time in my adult life I woke up on New Year's Day without the usual hangover. Normally the first day of the year is a write-off for me. Yesterday though was a refreshing change as Karen and I stayed in on New Year's Eve, looking after Felix, and went to bed - reasonably sober - shortly after midnight.

I'm not that big on New Year resolutions. If ever I want to make changes in my life I try to do it there and then. All I really want from this coming year is more of the same. If 2007 turns out anything like 2006 I'll be more than happy.

Towards the end of last year I realised it was turning in to the best year of my life. By the end of the year there was no doubt I'd look back on it as one of the happiest times of my life. Why? Well, four things really.

  • In December my first born, Felix, arrived.
  • In April Karen and I got married.
  • Rockall had a really successful year.
  • We managed to get Quinn's new room, the nursery and the bathroom all completed.

So, I'm living in the house of my dreams married to the girl of my dreams with two great kids. Life could not get any better.

Because business was so good and we got the house near to completion I have more time this year to devote to other things. My priority now is to keep the business doing well, so that the mortgage and bills get paid and we all have somewhere to live and food on the table. The major incentive behind this is knowing that the alternative is returning to an office job, which would mean working away and missing everything I've just mentioned. This is my worst fear.

As for codestore I'm hoping 2007 will be another good year. There might not be an article every month but there will be some and the blogging will continue and the downloads will come.

To the new year!

  3. May the best be ahead for you and yours Jake! And may 2007 be the best year yet for any of us. If we can learn from the past, we should only be able to improve, eh?
