Notes-Like Web Applications Using YUI Ext

Somehow last night I managed to steal a few hours away from everying and play with some code. My thing at the moment is Jack Slocum's brilliant YUI Extention and getting it to play with Domino. Using Jack's Layout Manager it's easy to create split-pane Notes-like web applications that are cross browser compatible.

Last night I did this for a pretend help system and created this ticket form. While I was at it I took Jack's Image Chooser component and turned it in to a Name Picker dialog. Open the form and click the "pick a name" button to see it in action. All this is on-the-fly Domino-driven data. At the moment the people are stored in this database, but it could all be taken from a names.nsf.

Using this dialog component it would be trivial (well, kind of) to create a View Picklist equivalent for the web and other such magic. This will have to wait for the new year though. My plan is to help give the guys behind the !!HELP!! project a hand in web enabling it. Hence the pretend ticket form I'm playing with.

For now I am signing off for a short Christmas break, hopefully returning before the new year for a couple of posts and a look back at the year gone by. Here's wishing you a very merry Christmas from myself, Karen, Quinn, Felix and Teddy (the dog).

  1. You should take a peak at Jack's animation library. I used it to create animated help for users. They click a "Show Me How" link and the cursor moves around entering values, clicking buttons, etc..

    Very cool stuff.

I can't think of anyone more suitable to help web enable !!HELP!!.

It is already an amazing project, adding you and Jack Slocum's extension is brilliant.

Great work Jake - looks excellent.

Seasons greetings to the whole family.

  4. Hey nice example. You should check out the OpenNTF project DomYUI, that I recently became a cook on.

Its only in its first release currently, but uses a ReadViewEntries call to bind a notes view to a YUI+EXT data grid. We're looking to add in inline editing for the next release.

  5. Oh and here's a link to see it in action:

  6. Trivial.... for you! The rest of us depend on your sample databases.

    Merry Christmas!
