Domino Designer On Mac Revisited

Remember I talked about running Designer on Mac in June? Well, Parallels have just released the beta of build 3036 which introduces a feature called "coherence". Using this we can remove all the gubbins from around a Windows application and have them look pretty much like they're running on OS X. They even appear in the alt-tab listing. Here's an example:

It's still a little odd in use but it's all moving in the right direction. At the rate the Parallels team are adding new features it won't be long before we're launching Windows apps directly from the dock. Goodbye ugly old PC?

Here's a demo movie of coherence on YouTube.

  1. I plan on upgrading my Mac Mini to the Intel Duo next year and then run Windows as a VM. Hasta La Vista Microsoft.

  2. @Ed - Windows what? So far as I know, anything after Win 2k will not run without registering via M$ online - which means you'll still be paying licen$ing fees.

I love the VM idea, but I think we're a long way from divorcing M$ completely, except when you look at emulation of the Win API, ala Parallels or WinE.

  3. I have just started using Parallels and am finding it a great way of combining some great Mac applications with the fact that I have to use Notes Designer.

  4. They now have Lotus Notes for OSX {Link} , does this include Designer?

You might be able to stay in the Mac world after all and skip parallels.
