Self-Marketing

The only forum I tend to hang out in nowadays is the uk.d-i-y usenet group. Nothing much ever happens there really, but I had to laugh the other day when somebody decided to post an advert for their new company.

Posting adverts to usenet is against the rules, AFAIK, so this guy decided to pretend he was in fact a satisfied customer passing on the word.

If you're going to self-market in the guise of a satisfied customer make it less obvious and pick a forum that isn't full of the kind of nerds who are able to pull it apart so easily. How stupid must he feel now...

  1. Astro-turfing. There was even an incident like this in the Notes DeveloperWorks (notes.net to me) forum. Picked apart the same way.

    Ouch

  2. Let that be a warning, you gotta come forward with the truth or it'll bite you in the rear later on.

  3. Hmm, I will simply comment on one part in the posting: "Cya"

Is it not ironic that the acronym cya which the guy from Lumos Lighting used to end his post means Cover Your Ass? He just keeps shoving that foot deeper and deeper.

He's not feeling stupid at all.

Remember, *any* publicity is good publicity. The best response would have been to delete hs post, and (at least for the moment) consign his ad to the Dustbin Of History.

You might like this link better than lumos. From a home improvement tv show in the States. Supposed to have loads of home project how-to info.
