Back to Reality for Mr & Mrs Howlett

We're back. We're married!

The wedding day went without any problems, the sun shone and everybody seemed to have a nice time. My fears about the speech soon went away after the third pint.

We got back last night from a short break in Venice. With it being our honeymoon we opted for a little 5 star luxury and stayed at San Clemente Palace. While booking I filled out the "additional comments" box and mentioned it would be our honeymoon. Forgetting I'd done this I was pleasantly surprised that they had upgraded us to a suite and left some Champagne on ice with two glasses. Nice.

Venice itself is an amazing place. It's a shame it's become so tacky and touristy though — over-run by men trying to sell you roses and laser-pens. Then there's the tat they sell in the shops. I was hoping to buy some nice Murano glass as a reminder of our honeymoon. It was all such bad taste though. Unless you're in to prancing glass horses that is.

I know I've talked here about my "When in Rome" approach to travel, so you might be surprised that we didn't take a trip on a gondola. Instead we decided to eat, like Pavarotti. Italian food is amazing and I just can't get enough of it. Especially pizza. Needless to say we're both on diets now.

Getting married is a bit like turning a year older where it's ages before you remember your age has changed. I keep finding myself referring to Karen as my girlfriend and/or partner. Seems strange to refer to somebody as my wife. Unlike getting older this is actually something I'm happy to get used to though.

As soon as I've gathered in all the photos of the event and sorted them out I'll put them online. For now though I need to get my life back to normal...

Thanks guys. Combined with the cards we have downstairs this must top one hundred well wishes now. If that's not a good start to a marriage I don't know what it.

Glyn. We walked past it, but never looked in. Isn't it the most expensive restaraunt there?

    Congratulations, Karen and Jake !

Jake, you speak about history and you seem to be interested in. Did you look at San Clemente (your hotel's island) history ?

This island was used to keep mad people far from venice. these people were locked up until their deaths in the same building in which you slept.

The owner of this hotel want to hide this truth. Most of the tourists are not well-informed.

Did you hear cries of madness coming from the wall's stones ? ;-)

  14. Congratulatios, Karen and Jake.

Wish you both a Very Very Happy Married life.

Yep. She's the latest addition to the Howlett clan. So eager was she to join she'd already opened a new bank account in that name two weeks before the big day (fraud?). She's (with some egging on) changing her passport and driving licence now...
