My fingers hurt

Within the last week I have published four new articles. Not bad, considering I 'd only managed to produce eight so far this year. When I started this PHP set I didn't realise how much I needed to squeeze in. The latest is called Part 4, Views and not, as I envisaged, Part 4, Forms. As I get further in to the LAMP discussion I realise the series needs to grow and grow. The article on Views contains as much detail on coniguring Apache as it does anything else! Expect an "Advanced PHP" section to follow.

As I've mentioned already, we are working toward a PHP version of this Domino Template. As I write the articles I am also working on the code that will make up the finished site. You'll be able to download this toward the end but, if you can't wait that long to see it, there's a working copy online.

Notes Journal template in PHP

The "Advanced" articles will add to this base set of features. Things like searching, file uploads and view navigation. All of which might seem quite basic to us Domino Developers. I just don't want to rush in too fast. It can all be a bit overwhelming when we're used to the RAD world we're living in.

The one thing that scare me whenever I talk about PHP is that I am wasting my time. That's why it's good to see people like Peter Brok taking the initiative and setting up codestore's Danish sister-site www.codestore.dk, using the articles as a base. Once we've covered all the features we're used to I get the chance to show off and introduce those we've only ever dreamt of. This is when you will start to appreciate technologies like PHP over Domino.

Anyway, I'm off for the weekend but will try and get Part 5 to you early next week. Have nice weekends y'all.

In my experience Notes gurus do really cool stuff, but they're NOT generally cool people (sent hate mail to uknow@itstrue.com). The European DevCon was always a good example. They don't stare at their shoes when you try and engage them in conversation, but in a crowd they're a weird, humourless bunch!

On the other side of the coin you get people there like my old boss, who is not the most worldly guy out there, and complained that he couldn't get "proper sausages", or "real tea, y'know Tetley" in the hotel in Paris. I put it down to his traditional Yorkshire roots. Watching him try to walk up a down-escalator made up for it. Granted, it wasn't moving when he got onto it, but the big red light had to mean something.

Jake is, of course, the exception to the rule. He does cool stuff, *and* astounds us with his mojo.
