Manchester, 10 years on

Ten years ago to the month, aged 18, I left my parent's care for the dangers of city life in Manchester. Apart from a brief relationship with a Mancunian three years ago, I've never really been back since. Until this weekend that is. We went to see Kosheen play there, with some friends. One of the best live performances I've seen in a long time. Although we're going back next month to see Moloko, so that may well change. It was good going back. So much has changed that I barely recognised the place.

Anyway, all I've managed to achieve so far today is a lie-in, being in my typical Monday-mode - dazed and confused. However, I plan on adding the finishing touches to the second PHP article, currently in draft mode, and publishing it today. Let me know if it doesn't read well.

Don't get too excited about this article. It only really talks about what PHP files are and how you get them on to the web server. In effect it's an article about FTP. While I don't doubt that most of you are competent with FTPing, I'm sure there will be some of you who've never had cause to use it. Either way, I really want to "cover all bases" with this series of articles. There's no point telling a Domino developer how to create PHP pages if they've no idea how to get them on to a server...

Manchester is definitely a changed place...I've lived there for a while now and it seems that there's a new block of flats being built every other day! I assume you went to the MEN Arena to see Kosheen? I'm off there in November to see the stereophonics for the 5th time or something... That's one of the great things of living in a city, being able to easily get to big gigs and stuff...For me though, there are a lot more bad points than good...bit of a country boy me ;)

Looking forward to your PHP stuff Jake - I've just got RedHat up and running on a spare laptop (although the grafx card isn't recognised which is a right pain...stuck with 800x600 with v blocky text...)

    Cheers,

    J.

It was at the Academy Jono, as is the Moloko gig. I prefer the smaller venues to be honest. I rarely go and see big bands in big venues. In fact the last big concert I went to was also in Manchester ten years ago (a month before I started uni) and was one Jean Michel Jarre's smaller efforts at Maine Road.

The last band I saw in Manchester was Pantera - and fantastic they were too. In between each song they drunk more whisky and harrased the semi-goth people down at the front with pentagrams on their t's.
