Using My Time Off Wisely
Now that I've got some time to off I need a plan to use the time wisely. I've got lots of things listed and hope to get to at least touch on them all. One of these objectives is to start using Domino 6. To my shame I've hardly used it at all so far. Not only should I be talking about it here but I should probably get myself re-certified.
This could have been even more of an issue now that I see Domino 6.5 has gone in to Beta. Initially I thought I had twice the work to do. Not quite so. Looking at the list of what's new (WARNING: Contains view applet!) I was left a little underwhelmed. Not one of the changes got me even slightly excited. They've added the time to the date column. Okay! Does this and the other changes warrant a "point release" or could they not have just rolled it all out in Domino 6.0.2? For the time being I think I will concentrate on Domino 6.0...

yip - I had the same thoughts about 6.5 - once it is installed and you connect to the server you get a release version (on the server console) of 6.0.3 -> thats more like it ;o)

Jake, you'd probably be able to take the exam and pass with little or no work. I took the upgrade exam the other week, and passed with 92%. Only really used the self test software and a quick look at the product.

Just started this move ourselves but we're moving to Linux at the same time. Best of luck, thought it's been ok so far for us.
On another note, do you know of an out-of-the-box way to export a document as html. I need to show docs on a non notes server on the otherside of a firewall. I was thinking of exporting the doc as html and using a cron job to move the output file to the other machine.
I've been hunting but not found a way of doing the export and since it's a no budget request I've no time to put in coding it all up.
Since notes generates the code, surely there must be a way of saving that to a file nightly.
I realise I've probably missed somet extraordinarily obvious but there you go.

About ND6.5 and "What's New"....
Anyone else remember Garnet? This time around, they seem to have taken the approach that if it's not guaranteed to be in the final release, they aren't going to breath a word about it to anyone. This is just Milestone 1 now, not even a proper Beta, so I expect to see quite a bit more on the way, mostly on the server side this time around ... and it will probably be a lot more exciting to people using Domino as a resource (from WebsFear, etc.) than it will be to people who use it as a platform. On the upside, though, if you have anything to report that doesn't work quite the way it ought to but would be too big to fix in a dot-dot release, this is the time to get on it.
In answer to Dec's question, 30-50 lines of code in a java agent would probably solve your problem. Java agent should traverse a view, open each document URL, through jave.net.*. Then write the received HTML down to disk through a filestream.

Remember this is a first beta, and there'll be some more exciting features added before the product ships. There is some very cool stuff which isn't quite ready for public consumption yet.

re the self-test software - use the link from the CLP area on the IBM site - they give existing CLPs a 30% discount.
