Early Mornings = Early Nights = No Spare Time

This morning Felix woke us at the unusually late time of 6:30am. I never thought I'd wake at this time and be thankful of the lie-in!

Because we've been getting up so early recently our body clocks are shifting. We now go to bed no later than 10pm most nights - even on the weekends.

This shift of routine means I now have less of what I'd consider "spare" time at the end of each day. Adding to this the fact that I'm juggling various deadlines, which keep me busy during the "9-5" slot, means I barely have any time left over at all. The precious time I do have I find myself either using for quality time with the family or spending on the many DIY tasks I need to get done.

What I'm getting at is that I just don't have the time at the moment to give this site the attention it needs. I know you're not supposed to apologise for not blogging, so I'm not. I'm just explaining why it's down to a post a week for the time being.

Running a site like this in the long term is very cyclical. On a scale of years and months there are periods where I'll be posting stuff every day and then times like now when it will be weekly or less. Rest assured though that this isn't the beginning of the end or anything like that. I just happen to be really busy at the moment. This will pass and I'll be back soon to share all the useful ideas I keep jotting down for posting on here. For now though I'll try and keep it at least twice-weekly.

    Jake,

Things like this just happen, "life" has been slowing down my blog posting for the past 6 months or so. I'm sure most of your readers are loyal and will notice the RSS unread items once you're back at full steam. People understand...

Welcome to parenthood Jake, I've hardly seen the dark side of 22:00 for about a year now. Apparently it gets better.......

Hmm, a life that consists of Work-Family-DIY: that sounds familiar!

When our boys got to three, we managed to reclaim something we used to call "the evening", only for it to slip away again (when they reached double figures and decides they should stay up all night).

It does get better - and if it doesn't get better, it does get different.

Either way, I know I'll keep reading your blog.

    Jake -

Since Codestore has built up such a brand name, you could always host "guest" articles or posts from some of your more trusted colleagues in order to keep the stream of information going.

    Kudos Jake.

Enjoy your rare free time. I m sure you ll be back blogging soon ;-)

Your technical blogs & articles are worth reading, and are also worth on the long time, when you re stuck looking for a solution... and you remember something you saw on Codestore months or even years ago.

The "Jake's life" touch is very good reading too.

Anyway, enjoy your rare free time with your family, and come back blogging when you feel like.

Luc, long time reader, as so many...

  1. It does get better! Although I'm sure someone told me it got better when the mornings were dark. No such luck yet.

We no longer set an alarm clock for getting up for work in the morning, because we've usually already been up for 2 hours. Patrick is right: "if it doesn't get better, it gets different."

Believe me, it's the norm, not the exception. Don't listen to all those folk with "good babies" that sleep 7 till 7; Lucky them, but it's not the benchmark.

Don't know how many times I've referred to your site for info. Cheers!

Jake, as a father of a 6 month old, I must admit to not having the time to read your blogs these days :-)

On the plus side, ours likes to sleep from 7.30pm to 8.30am straight, so we still have evenings to ourselves, but I know all about the work, family, DIY thing!
