I've used 8.5.0 through to 8.5.2. It's not there yet (DDE certainly isn't), although like I say, production applications are entirely do-able. As for the engine upon which XPages are built, of course you can deploy to it. But it is not supported, and it is not a proper JEE container (not that IBM are saying it is of course).
Anyway, this is all by the by. For Jake, I would recommend continuing with ASP.Net and looking into mobile development. Personally I'm playing with Ruby, Ruby on Rails and Titanium Appcelerator, whilst keeping the hand in with JQuery, XPages and all that too. Never let it be said that the world of IT stands still!
