When I talked about "authentication" I was talking about something other than standard Domino authentication. Looking back at what I wrote this wasn't clear at all.
I was thinking of something like giving consumers of the Web Service and "number" and "key" pair. Basically two random strings that would need to match. These would then be soft-coded in to the service-consuming code in the other system.
