a) Add some lookup code to see if any other docs are linked to this one
b) Use an agent to update links periodically so they trully are reciprocal
I have utilised the first option for an app where a major feature was the
ability to do this kind of thing and whilst its probably regarded as bad
practice the impact on the server was not as bad as might be expected despite
there being nearly a thousand records. Careful use of views should stop the
server being dragged down too much.
