Sublime Text is my new fave. It's not free (about 40 quid) but it's per user licencing so that bought me the Windows *and* Mac version (and Linux should I ever need it).
Sublime isn't as feature-rich as Textpad or Notepad++ but it's simple + powerful (and looks nice too).
