   To make it easier use a formula in the HTML Body Attributes.

   @If( @IsDocBeingEdited ; "onLoad=\"f = document.forms[0]\" onbeforeunload=\"navigateAway()\";" ; "onLoad=\"f = document.forms[0] ;\"" )

   It won't do the check unless the document is in edit mode. Not nearly as annoying.
