Validator Undefined

The validator works great when a doc is created. We allow anonymous users to
author documents and the validation works. Document saves fine. I go back and
EDIT a document and log on to do so (access control for edits). Whether I
change anything or not, the document will not save and produces a js error
"validator undefined'. HELP!
