webite's

Don't worry I'm not selling myself cheap. Just an example of an abused apostrophe. Thanks to Czeslaw for the link. Also to John Haywood for reminding me of the endless arguments I had with my colleagues at HSBC. Oh, they were the days. Their argument:

Shut it Jake, the apostrophe in FAQ's is to denote the contraction of the word 'Questions'! Stop bothering me!

My counter-argument:

Well, why is it not F'A'Q's then!?

I won in the end if I remember rightly ;o)

Rob Porter mailed me yesterday with a great idea for an article. Using the iNotes file-upload ActiveX object. He's already done the majority of the work but I wondered if anybody had done it as well. What did you find?

Thanks to Owen Butler, Lea LoBlue and Roger Harper for using the comments form productively. A refreshing change to the average day's (note apostrophe) posts.

[Edit]: Forgot to thank Mike "ADSL" Golding for burning me a copy of R6 PR2. The fun I'm going to have tonight....

You might have noticed that the site was "down" for a few hours yesterday. Apparently RAID failed during a re-boot. Sorry. Out of my control.

Slightly patronising rant: FAQ's are not FAQ's they are FAQs (or for the ultra-pedantic - F.A.Qs). Similarly, URL's are URLs and I was born in the '70s. Although it would be the URL's protocol of course. It's bad enough that people write things like u r gr8 without the humble apostrophe facing abuse. Rant over. Sorry.

Found this GIF at the weekend. Thought it was quite nice. Thought you guys might do too.

First things first, hello back to Matt's colleague, Andrew Bares, in WestLB's New York office. You should stay for a few more pints next time you're here!

Not pretending to be any kind of Java expert I have to rely on others to help me out from time to time. Somebody whose opinion I respect is Johan Känngård. He too has a site. It's been in development for a while now but he says he's now happy enough to let me start linking to it. He's got some nice LotusScript class files you can download. Hopefully lots more to come. Make sure you all let him know it's appreciated ;o)

Found some articles today on Domino and Linux, all by the same guy. Interesting. Mental note: must get that Linux server working again...

The problem with the LDD Domino Forum is that people forget that oranges aren't the only fruit. There are always the posts there that, whilst the problem happened to be while using Domino, has nothing to do with Domino itself. When this happens it's handy to know that there's a forum out there for almost everything. JavaScriptCity has a really good one for those advanced JavaScript questions. Warning: Dumb questions not tolerated there!

Redirect a user and log movement using a servlet

Last week I trod old ground and spoke about how to get ready to create a servlet for the first time. The obvious carry-on from this is to write an actual servlet. That's what I'm going to do now. The...

I turned Fuzzy Searching on today. Why on earth I had never done this before I don't know. Even I admit that searching this site usually proved fairly fruitless. Even knowing exactly what's here I still had touble finding stuff. Should be easier now.

Making good use of my day "off" today I have been creating a servlet that makes "use" of the Database Structure Enumeration technique discussed in this DDF document. Given the URL of any database I can quite easily get access to all the documents in those views you think you've secured by simply hiding them. What to do with the code? Keep it to myself, me thinks. Not only can it get sensitive information it's also pretty easy to bring a server to its knees in a mater of minutes. Something tells me that, if I share the code, Prominic won't be at all happy. Anybody who wants to know more is welcome to mail me to arrange a demo. On the topic a Google search for "Domino and Enumeration" is interesting. Well, to some maybe.

Have a good weekend. Mine's started already and doesn't end until Tuesday ;o)
